Welcome to: Jazz Tap Class.com
A complete System that successfully Grows Recreational Jazz and Tap Programs
Our Vision
Demystifying how to develop technically strong jazz and tap dancers, especially the once a week recreational student, by providing a quality syllabus that demonstrates the science and provides a proven step-by-step system for what to teach, how to teach it, and when, thus reducing the workload for studio owners and teachers, and resulting in rec students with great jazz & tap technique and a life-long love and respect for jazz & tap dance.
Our Mission
To provide a Jazz and Tap Combo Class Program based in The Bisland Technique Jazz & Tap Syllabus that allows smaller studios to cultivate the once a week recreational student to become a technically strong dancer in the art of jazz and tap dance, thus helping their studio’s to grow, become profitable & successful long-term via their happy students.
Kathryn Bisland
Kathryn been involved in the dance industry since she was 7 years old and has been teaching for 30+ years. She found her passion for dance accidentally and dance became an activity that she couldn’t live without. When she realized this, she was dismayed to find that she was behind in her training, eliminating her ambition to become a professional dancer.
Quickly pivoting, she vowed to become the best dance teacher she could be and offer that once a week, recreational dancer the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in dance (without having to be competitive), so that they could pursue dance at the pre professional & professional level if they realized that was their dream later in life, just like she did. Her syllabus in Jazz and Tap was born from this aspiration.
After trying out many different systems with her students over the years, she realized 2 recurring themes: the material usually focused on developing a competitive/multiple times a week dancer (meaning it was too hard for a once a week recreational dancer to learn in a dance year) and many “steps” were presented but with no guidance on how to break them down into teachable chunks and in what order to teach it. This led her to develop her own system in both jazz and tap, keeping that once a week dancer and the dance teacher/studio owner front of mind.
Kathryn’s dream is to let the world know that creating a technically strong dancer isn’t a secret, it's a science. She believes that even the once a week recreation dancer has the potential to establish a strong foundation for jazz and tap technique within their own personal potential if a teacher is given the tools to properly explain it to them. Kathryn’s syllabus offers just that, and she is thrilled to have the opportunity to share her knowledge and love for dance with your teachers and your students now via the JazzTapClass.com system
Matt Simone
Matt grew up in a household that had nothing to do with dance, so what is he doing here involved in this project? Well, instead he was introduced to the world of dance in his late 30’s, first by Kathryn as a dance teacher and studio owner and then by his oldest daughter who, at 4 and a half, shares her mom’s passion for expressing herself through the art of dance. He always knew that Kathryn had developed a system to create technically strong, happy and healthy dancers, and he encouraged her to share it with the world
Watching his daughter delight in dance, while being provided with a strong foundation for the artform through Kathryn’s syllabus, gave him the creative inspiration to partner with Kathryn and help facilitate the JazzTapClass.com system. Her passion for teaching dance and making it accessible to many ignited his entrepreneurial spirit and he made the decision to partner with Kathryn to bring her vision to life. His goal is for all the dance dads (and dance moms) out there to know that their children can have, through this syllabus, the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of jazz and tap via a proven system that is technically sound, tons of fun and designed with love for the once a week dancer. He loves being a part of this incredible world and watching his little dancer thrive and connect to her creative spirit through the joy of jazz and tap dancing. And he is so happy to be a part of bringing that experience to a wider audience through the JazzTapClass.com system
